JPEG Mini- Recommendations

This program is simple to use.  You just drag the photos into the program, and it takes care of the rest.  The only thing is that the program automatically replaces the photos, so make copies if you want to keep the originals.

JPEG Mini

FAQ

What is JPEGmini?

JPEGmini is a photo optimization technology that reduces the file size of photos by up to 5X, while preserving the resolution and quality of the original photos.

Why should I use JPEGmini?

With JPEGmini you can store more photos on your hard drive and online photo service account, attach more photos to your emails, and upload your photos faster to the web. If you have an image-intensive website, your pages will load faster, and you’ll also reduce your storage and bandwidth costs.

Is JPEGmini a new file format?

No. JPEGmini files are in standard JPEG format, which can be viewed and edited by any browser, photo software or consumer device.

How is JPEGmini different from JPEG?

JPEGmini files are optimized JPEG files, whose parameters have been tuned to significantly reduce the file size without affecting perceptual quality.

How does JPEGmini compare with JPEG2000, JPEG-XR, WebP, or other image formats?

JPEGmini uses the standard baseline JPEG format, which is by far the established market leader in the image compression space. Newer formats such as JPEG2000, JPEG-XR and WebP have not gained any significant market share yet. Although these formats presumably offer better compression than JPEG, JPEGmini’s unique recompression technology can produce JPEG files that are smaller in size than corresponding JPEG2000, JPEG-XR or WebP files.

What is the typical file size reduction I can expect from JPEGmini?

This depends on the resolution and quality of the original photo. For high-quality, high resolution photos produced by digital cameras, you can expect a reduction of 50%-80% in file size.

How does JPEGmini work?

JPEGmini works by analyzing the input image using a unique quality detector which imitates the human visual system, and based on this analysis applying the maximum amount of compression which will not cause visible artifacts. For further details, see the technology section.

How do I make sure that the quality of my photos is not affected by JPEGmini?

JPEGmini technology has undergone extensive user testing according to the ITU BT.500 standard, which proved that average users could not distinguish between original photos and JPEGmini photos. You are welcome to test the quality on your own photos: After recompressing them using our service, compare them side by side at 100% zoom (where each pixel on the screen corresponds to a pixel in the photo).

How can I use JPEGmini on my photos?

To optimize files stored on your computer, you can use our JPEGmini for Windows and JPEGmini for Mac app apps. You can also upload your photos to our free online service, and download the optimized JPEGmini photos. Single photos do not require registration, and batch uploading of full photo albums requires free registration.

Is there a limit on the number of photos I can upload to JPEGmini?

Each album that you upload can contain up to 1000 photos, and can be up to 200 MB in size. You can upload as many albums as you want.

How can I use JPEGmini on my website?

You can also upload photos and other JPEG images from your website to our online service, and download the recompressed images.

How can I use JPEGmini in my company?

You can use the JPEGmini Photo Server software locally on your hosts or on Amazon AWS for maximum performance, availability and security.

Do you have a desktop application, Photoshop plug-in or library that I can use to recompress photos on my computer?

We have desktop applications available for Windows and for Mac. Based on feedback from our users, we will consider other methods of packaging our technology.

I tried JPEGmini and the file size reduction was very small. What happened?

JPEGmini achieves the highest file size reduction for first-generation photos created by digital cameras. Using photos that have been edited, re-sized or processed by photo editing software may cause lower reduction ratios.

Which input formats and resolutions does JPEGmini support?

JPEGmini supports standard JPEG files with a resolution of up to 50 Megapixels (JPEGmini for Mac supports up to 28 Megapixels). JPEGmini supports YCbCr and Monochrome color spaces. Other color spaces such as YCbCrK, CMYK, etc. are not supported.

Does JPEGmini support RAW photos as input?

JPEGmini currently accepts only JPEG photos as input.
